Congratulations, Joseph! You make a distinctive brand based on your charts and analyses, and I appreciate your broadening the coverage to more countries. I personally would like to know more about your research process and where are your trusted sources. Thanks again for writing this newsletter!
Congratulations! You summed up exactly what leaves us hungry in journalistic writings vs having to have a degree in economics to know where and how to wade through it all. Thank you!
Nice work. I have a suggestion/question/challenge for you...
Seems to me that Substack's subscription model is fatally flawed in that if you want to make a lot of money, you need to restrict your content from broad distribution and if you want broad distribution/influence, you can't make much money. For example, I probably subscribe to 30+ newsletters and pay for almost none of them and I'm sure that's typical.
My question/challenge for you is this...
1. How can the Substack subscription model can succeed long-term when users won't consistently sign up for $10 monthly subs?
2. Why isn't the Matt Levine/Bloomberg newsletter model of an unobtrusive text ad a better approach for everyone? As I'm sure you know, he has amazing reach and influence and there are no restrictions on who can read his newsletter.
Well done! I just subscribed and I can’t wait to catch up on all these articles. Would you mind sharing which tool you use to make your charts?
Thanks Mark! Welcome to Apricitas.
I use the programming language R to make all the charts—you can find the code here if you want to take a look: https://github.com/Miles-byte/Apricitas
